One of you has the list. The other wants Costa Rica. We build that trip a lot, and the secret is not fewer birds: it is three nights at a stop instead of two, so there is a morning for the birder and a day for both of you.
How it works
Dawn is the birder's.
A local guide, booked before you land, takes the birder out at first light. That is when the birds are up, and it is usually over by breakfast.
The afternoon is for both of you.
The hot springs at Arenal. The beach at Manuel Antonio. The pool at Cristal Ballena, which looks over the Pacific. Whoever slept in has lost nothing.
One driver, one plan.
A private driver takes you both between stops, on your schedule, and our greeter meets you at the airport with your welcome pack. Nobody spends the trip working out logistics while the other one is birding.
Why we build it this way
More of our birding enquiries than you'd think come from one half of a couple. Two nights at a lodge means the birder is out at dawn on the only full day while the other person waits around. Three nights fixes it.
The quetzal is the one exception to the rule that the non-birder doesn't care. I have watched it convert people at breakfast at San Gerardo de Dota, so most of these trips go there.

Questions couples ask
Will the non-birder be bored?
Not if each stop is three nights long. The guided birding is over by mid-morning, and every one of these trips has hot springs, a beach or a pool close by.
Can we change the trip?
Yes. Every trip is a starting point. We change the lodges, the length and the order until it's right for you both.
Do we need to rent a car?
No. A private driver takes you between stops, and our greeter meets you at the airport.
