Caribbean Foothills

La Angostura lake and the Turrialba farmland

Map of La Angostura lake and the Turrialba farmland, Costa Rica

The lake beside Hotel Casa Turire, and the open country between our two foothill lodges. After the forest mornings at the ranch, this is the other kind of birding: farm, garden and water.

At Casa Turire the toucans and parakeets can be seen everywhere in the gardens. The hotel's own page also names the Red-breasted Meadowlark and the Tropical Mockingbird, and there are water birds on the lake. There are kayaks and canoes if you would rather be out on it.

Turrialba holds a wide variety of hummingbirds too.
