A small lodge in the foothills of the Talamanca mountains, above San Isidro de El General, and higher than the other lodge we use in the valley. That height is the point: its gardens bring in birds of the cooler slopes that you would not find down by the river.
The Black Guan, the Silver-throated Tanager and the Red-fronted Parrotlet, a regional endemic, all come into the gardens here. Below, in the El General valley, Los Cusingos Bird Sanctuary is close by, and the whole area round San Isidro is good ground for a birder.
It is named for the tayra, the tolomuco in Costa Rica, a forest weasel that lives in the woods round the lodge.

Birding on the property
What our files hold about the land is its gardens, in the foothill forest of the Talamanca range, and the birds that come into them. The lodge's own site could not be read on 4 November 2026, so trails, feeders, guides, reserve size and elevation are left off until it can (see To verify 2).
