A note from Jason

I have been planning Costa Rica trips since 2004 and have booked hundreds of birding tours over the last twenty years, but I am not an expert birder. I still think of myself as a beginner.

That is changing fast.

Every day I get a little more passionate about the birds, and the name in the corner of every bird photo on this site is there for me as much as for you.

The photographs are not ours either. We paid for a licence on the ones from Shutterstock and Adobe Stock, but paying for a photo does not make it our work, so every bird photo carries the photographer's name. The rest were shared on iNaturalist and Wikimedia Commons by people who love birds and wanted others to see them, and naming them is the least we can do.

How we credit

Photos and recordings shared on iNaturalist and Wikimedia Commons under a Creative Commons licence carry the author, the licence and a link to the original, here and on each bird page. Works released under CC0 need no credit; we name the author anyway.

Photos from Shutterstock and Adobe Stock are licensed for this site and carry the photographer's name, written exactly as the stock site shows it, here and on the photo itself. Lodge photos come from each lodge, with thanks.

Is one of these photos or recordings yours, and would you like the credit changed or the file removed? Write to travel@birdingcostarica.com and we will put it right.
